If you prayed to God to receive His salvation then you might ask, “WHERE DO I GO FROM HERE?” or “WHAT'S NEXT?” Salvation is the wonderful beginning of our spiritual journey. We are no longer spiritually dead; we are now alive and open to God (born again)! We now need to grow in our relationship with God. It is vital that we continue to grow and mature in our faith and knowledge of God, because if we don't, then we will eventually become stagnant and start to die spiritually.
The following things will help you grow spiritually in your walk with Jesus:
1) Read the Bible on a regular basis: The Bible is the holy Word
of God, God’s written word to us. It helps us learn more about
Him and how He wants us to live as Christians. A good place to
start is the book of John (the 4th. book or gospel in the New
Testament). See 2 Timothy 3:14-17 and 1 Peter 2:2.
2) Pray on a regular basis: Prayer is talking and listening to
God. Talk to God in your own words as if you are talking to a
close friend, for He is your best friend. To develop your
relationship with God you need to communicate with Him, just as
you need to in any relationship. See 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18,
Matthew 6:5-13, and Philippians 4:6-7.
3) Share your faith in Jesus with others: Tell others about
Jesus--who He is and what He has done for you. Be a Christ-like
example to others and a good witness--someone who testifies
about something he has learned for himself. See Romans 10:9-10.
4) Be obedient to God: Listen to God when He speaks to you through
His written Word and through His Holy Spirit. Obey Him when He
asks you to do something or not to do something. Jesus Christ
should be your Lord as well as your Savior. God loves you and
wants what is best for you so give Him full control of your
heart and life. Yield to His will in your life and strive to
become more loving and Christ-like in your character, words, and
actions. Ask yourself “Is this pleasing to God?” or “What would
Jesus do?” See John 14:15-26, John 16:5-15, Romans 12:1-2,
Galatians 5:16-26, 1 John 2:3-6, and 1 John 3:7-10.
5) Attend church faithfully: Regularly attend a local church that
believes in God’s way of salvation and that accurately preaches
and teaches from the Bible. Spend time with and get to know
other believers. Actively participate in a local church’s
worship services, Bible studies, outreaches, and ministries.
This will also help you to discover your God-given spiritual
gifts and talents which we should use to honor God and to serve
Him and others. See Hebrews 10:24-25, Romans 12:3-21, and
1 Corinthians chapters 12 and 13.
